As soon as the first episode of ?The Sing-Off? aired, much of the debate here was about whether or not an R&B legend like Jerry Lawson should even be on the show. Is he the most talented singer? He?s certainly up there, but he also has a bit of an unfair advantage due to his experience.
Nevertheless, he?s there ? and his group Jerry Lawson & Talk of the Town has the potential to go all the way. With Groove For Thought leaving Monday night, the real contenders have to be this group and Committed to make it all the way to the finale.
As for the episode as a whole, there were some nice moments. They groups each tackled a rock classic, and then also sang a ?guilty pleasure? number. For Jerry Lawson, the highlight was easily a take on the Rolling Stones? ?Satisfaction? that managed to do something different with the song while at the same time entertaining. Meanwhile, Committed recovered from a subpar earlier performance to deliver a thrilling cover of the Backstreet Boys? ?I Want It That Way? that caused host Nick Lachey to make a joke about 98 Degrees.
