Jesse James: Kat von D is 'most beautiful girl'

On the wings of love!

Jesse James is still riding high on his surprise engagement to Kat von D, his girlfriend of five months.

Late Thursday and early Friday, hours after making his announcement, the Monster Garage star couldn't stop gushing about his bride-to-be.

    1. Uproar over 'Skins' is a blessing for the show

In a week of TV happenings that included Ricky Gervais going comedically postal at the Golden Globes and the return of "Idol," "Skins" soared to most-talked-about status.

    2. 'Big Brother' champ gets 4 years in prison
    3. Pink will prepare her baby for a 'cruel world'
    4. Portman and Kutcher? Are you crazy?
    5. 'Vampire Diaries' about to reveal Damon's room

"Epic day comes to an end," James, 41, Tweeted before bed. "Closing my eyes to dream about [Kat]." The motorcycle mogul then posted an artsy black and white photo of the L.A. Ink star (real name: Katherine von Drachenberg), 28, showing off her ring (and her many tattoos) as she clutches a golden pear. (The Neil Lane bauble features a center diamond surrounded by smaller diamonds and a delicate filigree pattern with pretty scroll work; "she absolutely loved her ring," Neil Lane told UsMagazine.com.)

A Twitter pal then asked James, "Isn't she the most beautiful girl in the world?"

His instant reply: "Yes she is."

Scoop: Jesse James and Kat Von D engagedVon D will be James' fourth wife after Sandra Bullock (they famously split last June), porn star Janine Lindemulder and first wife Karla James (he has two kids with Karla, and one daughter with Lindemulder).

PHOTOS: Meltdowns of the year

Vilified for the adultery scandal that ended his six-year marriage to Bullock (plus a shocking Nazi photo unearthed by Us Weekly), James has taken pains to defend himself.

Quoting disgraced baseball player Pete Rose, he wrote: "I made a big mistake. I was wrong and I can't change it. I wish people would give me a second chance. I won't need a third chance."

On Friday morning, he used the words of General Chuck Yaeger (who broke the sound barrier): "Rules are made for people who aren't willing to make up their own."
